Chronopolis Issue 0

transcribed by Doug Burbidge

This is a A5 booklet, and is the first progress report for Chronopolis. It would be two A4 sheets, folded into an eight-page booklet, but is in fact four sheets, so folded, because each sheet is printed on only one side. I suspect, therefore, that I am looking at a prototype.

The front cover says:

CHRONOPOLIS
swancon 29. science fiction convention and writers festival

then a picture of an Egyptian ruin, with a person abseiling down a rope, then in the bottom right corner:

ISSUE
0

The inside cover is numbered page 2, and is a colophon listing when-and-where. It lists:

INVITED GUESTS
Chris Dickinson
John Long
Jeremy Reston

FAN GUEST OF HONOUR
Emma Hawkes

The sf.org.au wiki lists John and Emma, but Chris and Jeremy evidently didn’t survive from PR 0 to con.

Page 3 is titled

CHRONOPOLIS
WERE YOU THERE?

and is marketing, written as if from the future, about how fabulous Chronopolis was.

Bottom of the page is an ad:

Swancon 2004 is proud to present its first fundraising event of the year! Join us to see the latest blockbuster action sequel X-Men 2!

Pages 4 and 5 gives blurbs for John Long, Chris Dickinson and Jeremy Reston. Page 6 is a blurb for Emma Hawkes and a “WE NEED YOUR HELP!” inviting program items from the hoi polloi.

Page 7 is an an announcement and rules for:

AMATEUR
SF&F
COMPETITION

Page 8, the back cover, is

CALL FOR PAPERS

with a footer box listing the committee, which is pretty much the same as listed on the wiki i.e. the seven committee members listed in the progress report all appear on the final committee list in the wiki, with the addition of three others.

About australian sf-history

ASFDAP was set up in 2011 after the rediscovery by the wider SF community of an impressive hoard of Australian SF community related ephemera, fanzines and other materials in the Murdoch University basement.
